When lift malfunctions or lift breakdowns occur, it’s difficult not to panic. At some point in its life cycle, every lift will have some sort of mechanical issue. Lift breakdowns (repairs) are a crucial part in the life cycle of any lift as a breakdown could occur at any point. Although lift breakdowns are an urgent matter, it’s vital that your lift is repaired by fully-trained, qualified lift engineers that know exactly what to do. Shoddy lift repairs can cause long-term damage to your lift and can quite easily make it so that a malfunction or breakdown is more likely to happen in the future.

Preventing Lift Breakdowns

The most effective way to prevent lift breakdowns is to have regular lift servicing/maintenance. When servicing a lift, we’ll thoroughly inspect all the features and components that can cause a breakdown, these include:

  • Control Panel

  • Call Buttons

  • Power & Electrics

  • Lighting

  • Shaft Signalling Equipment

  • Drive Unit

  • Emergency Alarm

  • Door Mechanisms

  • Wires & Cables

  • Lubrications

Lift maintenance should ideally be scheduled several times a year to completely minimise the risk of breakdowns or even small malfunctions. Naturally, the more a lift is used, the likelier it is to malfunction or break down. As lifts are used multiple times each day, the wear and tear can quickly accumulate.

Cables & Wires

Out of all the components, these are the ones that suffer the most wear and tear, and although they’re always incredibly robust, they’re frequently carrying heavy weights up and down each day.

Lubrication

Lubrication is something that should be maintained fairly often. Over time, the lubrication that is applied to the wires can dry up and become less effective, hindering the movement of your lift.

Power Supply

As with most every electrical device, a shortage of power or a malfunction within your power supply can cause lift breakdowns and malfunctions. With proper lift maintenance, your power supply should be one of the first things that is checked.

Door Mechanisms

Door mechanisms incorporate countless small components that could start to malfunction at any time. If your lift doors are slowing down or becoming less seamless, make sure to schedule maintenance or repairs urgently.

We’re on call 24/7 to react promptly to your lift breakdowns.
