Hotel Lifts

Guests notice the lift. If it’s slow, noisy, tired-looking or out of order, it ends up in your reviews, and a breakdown on a busy weekend leaves guests with luggage and wheelchair users facing the stairs.

We look after hotel lifts and venue lifts across the North West and Yorkshire, for clients including St Helens Theatre Royal, Chester Zoo, Knowsley Hall and Saints Rugby League. We’re based in St Helens, with offices in Manchester and Leeds, and if a guest lift fails out of hours, we’re on call 24/7.

What Hotels and Venues Need From Their Lifts

Hotel lifts have two audiences. Front of house, guest lifts need to be reliable, quiet and good-looking, because they’re part of the stay. Back of house, service lifts and dumbwaiters carry linen, luggage, room service and deliveries, and when one stops, housekeeping and the kitchen feel it straight away.

Venues have a different pressure. Theatres, stadiums and attractions see huge peaks on event days, with crowds arriving and leaving at once. A lift that fails during a show or a match day causes problems that are hard to fix with people already on site.

There’s also access. Under the Equality Act 2010, businesses serving the public are expected to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and for most hotels and venues with more than one floor, a working lift is usually central to that.

Hotel and Venue Lifts We Work On

  • Guest Passenger Lifts:

The lifts guests judge you by. Good maintenance keeps them smooth, quiet and level with every floor, and a cosmetic refresh can bring a dated lift car in line with the rest of the hotel.

  • Glass Lifts:

Feature lifts in atriums and modern venues. We install, maintain and repair them.

  • Platform Lifts:

Step-free access in theatres and older buildings where a full lift shaft isn't practical. In listed buildings, these are often the most realistic option.

  • Service Lifts and Dumbwaiters:

Move linen, luggage, stock, food and drink between floors and out of sight of guests.

Planning Lift Work Around Guests and Events

We agree visit times with your general manager or facilities team, steering clear of check-in, check-out, service times, performances and events. Routine servicing can often be done in quieter periods, and we’ll tell you in advance how long the lift will be off.

Bigger jobs like refurbishments can be planned for your quieter season. Where you have more than one lift, we plan the work so one stays in service wherever we can. Our engineers are friendly with guests, tidy and follow your site rules. As one hotel told us, they’re always really friendly and good to chat to but also get the work done.

Refreshing a Tired Hotel Lift

A dated lift car is one of the first things guests see after reception. A lift refurbishment can replace the walls, flooring, lighting and buttons, usually in one to three days, without touching the mechanics. If the lift is unreliable as well as tired, a full overhaul of the controls, doors and drive usually takes one to three weeks and costs far less than a new lift.

While we’re there, we’ll check whether the emergency phone relies on an analogue line. These lines are being switched off across the UK, and a lift phone that stops working leaves a trapped guest with no way to call for help.

Our Lift Services for Hotels and Venues

Most hotel lifts are serviced every three months under a maintenance contract, with a LOLER thorough examination every six months and priority call-outs if something goes wrong. For extensions and conversions, we also install new lifts.

Hotel and Venue Lift FAQs

How often should hotel lifts be serviced?

Most hotel lifts are serviced every three months, and busy guest lifts may need more. Any lift that carries people also needs a LOLER thorough examination every six months.

Can you work on our lifts without disturbing guests?

Yes. We book visits around check-in, check-out, service and events, tell you how long the lift will be off, and keep one lift running where there are two wherever we can.

How long does it take to refurbish a lift interior?

A cosmetic refurbishment of the walls, flooring, lighting and buttons usually takes one to three days.

Do we need a lift for disabled guests?

Under the Equality Act 2010, you’re expected to make reasonable adjustments so disabled people can use your services. What’s reasonable depends on your building, but for many hotels and venues with more than one floor, a passenger or platform lift is part of it.

Can you fit a lift in a listed building?

Often, yes. A platform lift is usually the most practical option where a full lift shaft isn’t possible, though listed building consent may be needed. We can look at the building and talk you through it.
